Castlemere Developments poised to submit plans for ‘ambitious’ 82-home Burhill Meadows project

  • Burhill Meadows in Hersham is an 82-home development
  • The grey belt site will include 50 per cent affordable housing and a range of improvements
  • Construction expected to start within 12 months of approval

Castlemere Developments is poised to submit a planning application for the most ambitious and largest project in its history – an 82-home development in Surrey.

The Burhill Meadows project in Hersham will revitalise a 5ha grey belt area with a range of new features including improved transportation, drainage and an enhanced public space featuring wildflower meadows, play equipment and woodland walks.

Half of the 82 homes will be affordable housing in an area where 2,000 households are on the Elmbridge Borough Council’s register for affordable housing while almost 100 households are in temporary accommodation.

The application by the Windsor-based company is expected to be submitted shortly with construction poised to begin within 12 months subject to planning approval. It is anticipated the Burhill Meadows project will take two years to complete with the first show home available after 12 months.

The properties will be a range of one and two bedroom apartments, 38 of which will be affordable housing. The site will also consist of two, three and four bedroom houses – the majority of these private.

The affordable housing will consist of a mix of rental and shared ownership options and Castlemere Developments expects to partner with a housing association to oversee these.

The site currently has a number of tenants onsite, including Wimbledon Greyhound Welfare (also known as Hersham Hounds).

As part of the planning agreement, Castlemere Developments is committed to the long-term future of the greyhound charity and securing it suitable new premises.

Duncan Cooke, director of Castlemere Developments said: “Burhill Meadows will be our most ambitious project to date. It will deliver modern and sustainable homes, as well as providing much-needed affordable housing.

“It will bring improved transportation, drainage and create open spaces for the whole community. We anticipate submitting the plans for the site in the next two to four weeks.”

He added: “We are also very aware that a development of this nature can cause concern and disruption and we are doing our utmost to ensure this is limited.

“One of these includes the Wimbledon Greyhound Welfare, which has done incredible work for a century. We have discussed the plans with them and as a responsible developer we are committed to supporting them with a new site to enable them to continue to care and house the greyhounds.”

Burhill Meadows would add to Castlemere Development’s growing portfolio of completed and in development property schemes across London and the south east.
