Crossrail has published an update on the Elizabeth Line, saying it should be open in the first half of 2022.

Work on the line has entered what Crossrail says is the ‘complex final stages’ and the TfL-owned project plans to start trial running in 2021 leading to trial operations where people will be invited to test the service.

The central section will open first before the full line from Reading and Heathrow to Abbey Wood and Shenfield is in operation.

Crossrail’s update states: “Our focus is on meeting the immediate challenges posed by Covid-19 and keeping the programme moving forward.”
