Croudace Homes is consulting on plans for up to 1,000 homes in Burnham.

The housebuilder is seeking to build on Hitcham Farm, west of Lent Rise Road in the village. A consultation website is now live and feedback is encouraged.

Along with the homes, a 21-hectare country park is planned.

According to the scheme’s website, the site, within walking distance of Taplow railway station on the Elizabeth Line, is ideally placed for development.

It went on: “Our proposals seek to deliver a balanced community, including market and affordable housing, with opportunities for specialist and accessible homes.

“The new parkland will provide recreational benefits for residents and will also help relieve visitor pressure on Burnham Beeches, which is a sensitive ecological area.”

But Buckinghamshire councillor for Burnham Cllr Cole Caesar is firmly opposed.

He told Thames Tap: “I strongly oppose this proposed development on active farmland. Not only would it result in the permanent loss of valuable agricultural land, but the impact of 1,000 new homes would place unbearable pressure on our local GP surgery, which is already operating well above capacity.

“Our village still does not even have a secondary school to support existing families, let alone the influx of new residents this scale of development would bring.

“Residents are also right to be sceptical about so-called ‘affordable housing’ promises. Too often, developers label properties as affordable while pricing them well beyond the reach of local families. Building on farmland under the guise of affordability is simply not acceptable.

“Developing on productive farmland is wrong, short-sighted, and not in the long-term interests of our community.”
