Elmbridge Borough Council says the Mill Road depot planning application (2026/1278) is being kept open for public comment while additional technical information is prepared.
A planning meeting is now expected later in the year, and residents will be notified again when the new material is submitted.
The revised proposal concerns Esher Depot, Mill Road, Esher, and seeks changes to existing planning conditions covering hours of opening and vehicle restrictions. In particular, it would amend Conditions 3 and 5 of permission 2016/2532, allowing altered operating hours and increasing the maximum number of non-bridge-compliant vehicles based at the depot from 25 to 40.
The council says the updated application follows resident feedback and replaces an earlier proposal, 2025/3216, which was withdrawn after consultation concerns. Officials say no physical changes are proposed to the site, but the changes are intended to improve the efficiency and safety of waste collection, recycling, and street-cleaning operations, while keeping school-time restrictions on Douglas Road and The Woodlands except in limited circumstances.
The council also says £100,000 is being spent on road improvements near the depot in partnership with Surrey Highways. Councillor Ashley Tilling said the revisions reflect public feedback and aim to protect reliable service delivery while allowing residents to raise further questions at a drop-in session.
