The Hounslow Cabinet recently approved the draft of the “Feltham Masterplan Refresh,” marking a significant step forward in the town’s development strategy.

This approval initiates a comprehensive community engagement program designed to gather input and feedback from local residents and stakeholders. The master plan aims to transcend traditional land use planning by incorporating development, design, and socio-economic considerations, aligning with the Council’s broader ambitions.

The Feltham Masterplan Refresh is set to function as a strategic guide, complementing the emerging Hounslow Local Plan. It provides detailed insights into development opportunities, serving as a roadmap for attracting investment to the town centre and surrounding areas. By facilitating collaboration between local communities, stakeholders, and both public and private sectors, the master plan seeks to achieve shared objectives. It will also be a crucial reference in pre-application and planning discussions, influencing design proposals and aiding in negotiations related to community infrastructure and public realm consistency.

One of the key features of the draft masterplan is the identification of opportunity sites for residential and mixed-use development. These sites have the potential to accommodate a significant number of new homes, including affordable housing and care homes, as well as create new job opportunities in Feltham. However, inclusion in the masterplan does not guarantee planning permission, as each proposal will be subject to further scrutiny and approval processes.

The community engagement activities are scheduled to take place between late May and late July. This timeline allows for thorough analysis of the feedback, which will be instrumental in finalizing the masterplan. The engagement program is designed to be inclusive and far-reaching, employing a variety of tools and approaches to ensure broad participation. These activities will be coordinated alongside other local plans, such as the Feltham Parks and Hanworth Airpark Masterplans, as well as transport improvement proposals.

The engagement strategy includes a highly visual printed booklet, a survey available both online and in hard copy, and simple postcards for quick feedback. In-person exhibitions and drop-in sessions will be held at public venues like Feltham Library, providing access to key materials and facilitating direct interaction. Additionally, focus groups and thematic workshops will be organized to engage marginalized communities and explore the masterplan through various lenses, such as health and environment. The “Let’s Talk” platform will host a new Future Feltham online hub, consolidating all engagement activities and offering detailed information on the masterplan and its underlying vision.

Overall, the approval of the Feltham Masterplan Refresh and the proposed consultation process represent a proactive approach by the Hounslow Cabinet to ensure that the future development of Feltham is both inclusive and aligned with the needs and aspirations of its community.
