Hammersmith and Fulham has recently approved a significant transformation project, converting a retail space in the Kings Mall into a modern hotel.

This development marks a pivotal change in the use of Unit 18 of Livat Hammersmith, transitioning from retail and ancillary use (Class E) to a Hotel (Class C1). The approved hotel will feature a maximum of 89 bedrooms, with at least ten per cent designed to be fully accessible for wheelchair users, adhering to British Standard BS8300-2:2018.

The project aims to revitalize the area by efficiently using currently inaccessible spaces, such as the former oil tank room of the Livat Shopping Centre. This conversion into a CityHub hotel will boost local footfall and foster a vibrant community atmosphere. The hotel will offer an affordable accommodation option, encouraging longer stays in Hammersmith and contributing to the local economy.

Key benefits of this development include optimising land use, enhancing the shopping centre’s foot traffic, and promoting sustainable practices through adaptive re-use. The design proposal emphasizes high quality and inclusivity, ensuring level access with ground-floor entrance doors and integral lift/stair cores at least one metre wide.

The project is backed by INGKA as the developer, BDP as the architect, and CityHub as the hotel operator. These entities bring a wealth of experience and a proven track record in pioneering design and robust management operations. The transformation of Unit 18, previously occupied by WHSmith and a small pop-up shop, is set to create a dynamic and inclusive environment.

This approval by the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham underscores a commitment to innovative urban development, enhancing the area’s appeal and functionality. The project promises economic benefits and aligns with sustainable urban planning principles, making it a noteworthy addition to Hammersmith’s landscape.
