Hounslow Council has extended the deadline to give feedback on two emerging planning documents that focus on climate change and the standards of design across Hounslow.

The documents will support the borough’s Local Plan and the Council’s pledge to create greener, thriving and liveable neighbourhoods. The deadline has been extended to provide residents, businesses and community groups with additional time to consider the documents along with the masterplans for Hounslow and Brentford’s town centres.

Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Supplementary Planning Document (SPD)

The aim of this emerging SPD is to provide guidance to builders and developers on how they can minimise carbon emissions from new and refurbished buildings, and adapt them as the climate changes, to help the borough achieve net-zero carbon emissions. It will play a crucial role in shaping future developments – ensuring that local people can live, work and thrive in sustainable, healthy, and well-designed places.

Character, Sustainability and Design Codes SPD

This emerging SPD is an update to our existing 2014 Urban Context and Character Study. The SPD aims to:

  • update the character assessment for the borough
  • propose area-based recommendations and visions to guide growth and change
  • set design codes to deliver high quality, characterful and sustainable design in development.

Once adopted, it will inform decision making on planning applications.

Hounslow and Brentford Masterplans

The Hounslow Town Centre Masterplan and Brentford Town Centre Masterplan continue our ‘Reimagining Our Town Centres’ project, which involves working with our communities to shape the future development and revitalisation of our central hubs. The masterplans present an incredible opportunity to create more attractive, vibrant, inclusive, and sustainable town centres that meet the needs and aspirations of residents, visitors, students and businesses.

Councillor Tom Bruce, cabinet member for Regeneration and Development said:

“We are committed to creating thriving, greener, safer, and healthier places for our communities to live, play, work, and study.

“These planning documents and town centre masterplans will enable high-quality sustainable design, development and placemaking in the borough.

“After listening to resident feedback, we have extended the consultation deadlines to ensure everyone has sufficient time to share their views. Residents’ voices will play an integral role in guiding the development of the documents and the future of the borough for many generations to come.”

The deadline for comments on the Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation SPD and the Character, Sustainability and Design Codes SPD has been extended until 11:59pm on Monday 14 August 2023.

The emerging Hounslow and Brentford Town Centre masterplan consultations is open until 11.59pm on Sunday 1 October 2023. Masterplan proposals for Chiswick and Feltham Town Centres will be brought forward later this year.

For more information and an explanation of each consultation, see here. The SPD documents are also available for inspection at Hounslow Council Libraries. Should anyone need this information in an alternative format, please contact the Council to request this at ldf@hounslow.gov.uk
