Hillingdon Council sets out its priorities

Hillingdon Council has agreed its Council Priorities for 2026 to 2030, outlining its ambition to make the borough an even better place to live, work and invest.

The six priorities highlighting what residents, businesses and visitors can expect from the council during the next four years are: 

• Brilliant at the basics. Striving to deliver excellent services residents can be proud of by maintaining clean, safe streets and green spaces, providing reliable weekly waste collections and taking tough enforcement action. 

• Putting our residents first. Supporting residents to live healthy and independent lives, leading strong partnerships to improve outcomes and standing up for communities. 

• Open for business. Championing the borough as a place to invest, while creating opportunities for residents and businesses of all sizes to thrive and revitalising town centres and public spaces.  

• Hillingdon homes for Hillingdon people. Creating new homes for the borough’s residents and improving homes, while ensuring development reflects local need and protects community character. 

• Future generations. Providing services and facilities which support the learning and wellbeing of future generations so they reach their potential.  

• Easy to deal with. Making services even easier to access and use, by bringing them together, enhancing digital tools and responding to residents quickly and clearly.   

The priorities are underpinned by sustainable economic growth, excellent public services, strong governance based on financial resilience, investment in our communities, and creating an organisation for the future.  

The priorities will sit at the heart of everything the council does, shaping day-to-day decisions, future policies, services and investment. They will be embedded across the organisation and reflected in the council’s financial planning, ensuring each priority is supported by clear plans, appropriate resources and sound financial management. 

The new Council Plan, which will follow, will explain how the ambition and strategic priorities will be delivered at a service level and how progress will be measured. 

Cllr Steve Tuckwell, leader of Hillingdon Council, said: “These priorities set a clear standard against which residents can hold us to account, and I’m pleased to say that work is already underway to put the foundations in place to deliver them. 

“We know ambition alone is not enough. Our job now is to continue to build a council that is financially sustainable, well-run and deliver high-quality services consistently for all our residents.”
