Horsham District Council has renewed its lease with British Ensign Golf Group for a further 25 years, ensuring the continued operation of Rookwood Golf Course as an important leisure and community asset.
The Council says the agreement supports its 2025/2026 Annual Plan commitment to maintain a golf and leisure offer at the site while protecting green space and promoting sustainable management.
British Ensign Golf Group has operated at Rookwood for nearly 30 years and will continue to manage the course and related facilities.
Council cabinet member for wellbeing, culture and green spaces, Cllr David Skipp, said the renewal secures the long-term future of the site as both a high-quality golf venue and a valued green space for walking and enjoying nature. He also highlighted the site’s role in supporting local health and wellbeing, as well as its potential to enhance biodiversity and help meet climate change goals.
British Ensign Golf Group said it was delighted to extend its tenure and plans to keep improving the course and other services, including its bar, restaurant, and event hire facilities for weddings and parties. The Council said it will continue listening to residents, community groups, and businesses to ensure the site is used in the best possible way.
