Construction is progressing on 306 low-cost homes at the former Sackville Road Trading Estate in Hove, with councillors and partners visiting the site on 8 April 2026 to review the work.

The development is being delivered by Homes for Brighton & Hove, a partnership between Brighton & Hove City Council and Hyde, on the northern part of the site beside Moda Living’s Hove Central neighbourhood.

The scheme includes 183 council-rent homes for people on the city’s housing register and 123 shared-ownership homes provided by Hyde. The homes are designed to be energy efficient, with solar PV panels to help lower residents’ energy bills. Support for sustainable travel will also be offered through subsidised bus or rail passes, bike vouchers, Beryl bike credit and/or car club membership.

The wider development will include car club bays, electric vehicle charging points, and extensive cycle parking. Shared outdoor spaces are planned, including landscaped courtyards with play equipment, seating areas and community growing space. Residents will also have direct access to shops and offices proposed as part of Hove Central.

Councillor Gill Williams described the project as an important step toward providing genuinely affordable housing for local people, especially with thousands of households on the waiting list. Hyde’s Jaime Buckley said the scheme addresses the growing affordability challenge for workers in the city and nearly doubles the number of affordable homes delivered by the partnership. Moda’s James Blakey said the project will help create a balanced, mixed-tenure neighbourhood and welcomed the progression of the final phase of Sackville Road regeneration.

The homes are expected to be completed in March 2029. This is the partnership’s third scheme, bringing its total delivery to 346 homes since 2017, including 104 at Clarendon Place in Portslade and 242 at Denman Place in Coldean.
