Three years after its initial closure, Oxford’s Botley Road has been delayed again, with expectations of a reopening in August now denied.
Before this update the road was set to open in August, however leaks found in a gas pipe on-site have pushed the schedule back by six weeks, also affecting Oxfordshire County Councils plans for replacing temporary congestion charges that would have ran alongside the roads operation.
Whilst an exact re-opening date hasn’t been confirmed, SGN and Network Rail are working on confirming a completion date.
The road has experienced many setbacks over the years, with the £161 million upgrade scheme initially set for reopening in late 2023 to early 2024, then pushed to October 2024, again moved to August 2026, and with this latest snag, estimates of a date in October 2026 – aggregating to roughly three years of delays.
