Weston Homes has been granted planning approval from Brentwood Borough Council for a new £19 million (GDV) town centre apartment scheme.

The approval was given by Brentwood Borough Council for the 0.51-acre development, set to provide 60 mixed-tenure apartments, located off Brentwood High Street on Western Road.

The 60 new homes will be split into 39 one- and two-bedroom market sale apartments, 11 one-bedroom discount-market-sale apartments for local people living and working in the area and 10 one- and two-bedroom affordable rent apartments; a 35 per cent affordable allocation.

The scheme will also deliver a private landscaped residents’ courtyard garden and an under-croft car park with 31 bays and 68 cycle spaces.

The architecture and design was undertaken by Weston Homes’ in-house architecture team, with the landscaping and planting designed by DUTCH Landscape Architects, with input from Hayden’s Arboricultural Consultants.

The building will be stepped from three to five storeys, with a red brick façade sympathetic to the local architectural aesthetic of Brentwood with features including floor-to-ceiling windows, step out cantilevered balconies and dark metal detailing.

Each apartment has access to its own private outdoor space in the form of either a balcony or terrace and floor-to-ceiling. Residents will also have access to the south-facing courtyard garden which will be complete with seating and trees, as well as an upper seating area with informal chairs and greenery.

Bob Weston, chairman and managing director at Weston Homes said: “Weston Homes is delighted to have been granted planning approval by Brentwood Borough Council for our new apartment development on Western Road in Brentwood. Weston Homes has a strong relationship with Brentwood Borough Council which started in 2018 when we agreed to redevelop the former Brentwood Police Station site into a new residential development known as 1023 West.

“Our new apartment scheme on Western Road will provide much needed affordable housing for local people living and working in Brentwood and will also provide market sale homes for first-time buyers and young couples who want to live in stylish apartments close to Brentwood high street.”

Construction is set to begin in October 2022, with the sales launch planned for Spring 2023 and build completion anticipated in Summer 2024.
