The team created to deliver a new Royal Berkshire Hospital has been disbanded.
Building Berkshire Together (BBT), an eight strong team, working on finding a site and delivering a modern hospital, has been scrapped following the Government decision to put the task of replacing the crumbling Craven Road site in the final wave of the New Hospitals Programme (NHP), leaving the project unable to start until some time between 2037 and 2039.
Three of the team, including programme director Alison Foster, leave this month, while others have been given new roles in the estates department where work on the project will continue. Ms Foster was our guest for a podcast last year.
A spokesperson for Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust (RFBT) said: “RBFT has been placed in Wave Three of the New Hospital Programme (NHP) with a commitment of £2 billion + for a new hospital on a new site.
“NHP have also given support for continuing with the identification and purchase of a suitably-sized and located parcel of land for our new hospital. The trust is currently concluding discussions with NHP on the funding support for this and subsequent financial years to conclude the land purchase.
“Key members of the BBT team who were retained within the trust in the estates department are leading on the delivery of this part of the trust’s journey to a new hospital.”
