The Government has now rejected plans for Holyport Film Studios.
Greystoke Land’s proposals for 43 hectares of film and TV studios on Green Belt were refused by the Royal Borough’s Maidenhead development control committee in March 2024.
After the applicant went to appeal, Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner called in the application and a decision was initially expected by May 29. This was delayed until ‘on or before June 26’.
The decision, published on June 6 by Minister for Housing and Planning Matthew Pennycook MP on behalf of Ms Rayner, rejected the proposal, stating it failed to meet the very special circumstances for development in the Green Belt.
Mr Pennycook said: “The Secretary of State is not persuaded that a clear and convincing need case has been demonstrated.”
He said she considered the harm to the Green Belt ‘is not clearly outweighed by other considerations and therefore there are no very special circumstances which would justify this development’.
Ms Rayner also agreed that Greystoke Land had not searched widely enough for what it called ‘reasonably alternative sites’.
