Savills has appointed Paul Bird as the new head of development for its Chelmsford office.

Mr Bird takes over the department from Andy Redman, who has stepped down from the role after more than 10 years.

Mr Redman is set to remain with the development team and will focus on strategic land consultancy, while Paul will continue with his work in valuations as well as shaping overall strategy for the division.

Paul Bird, head of development at Savills Chelmsford, said: “First and foremost I’d like to thank Andy for his hard work in leading the team for a number of years. Under his guidance the department has gone from strength to strength and I’m delighted that he will still very much be a central member of the team.

“Despite the economic headwinds of the last few months the department has had another good year and we start 2023 on a strong footing. There will no doubt be a few obstacles and challenges ahead – but we’re predicting another robust year and it’s a hugely exciting time to begin this next chapter.

“Essex remains a very active market and significant new infrastructure projects coming forward around Chelmsford and the rest of the county will present further opportunities for strategic development.”

Alex Leigh, head of office at Savills Chelmsford, said: “I wish Paul all the very best in his new role – the appointment is richly deserved and I look forward to seeing how the team grows and evolves under his leadership.

“Collectively they have a great deal of experience and expertise that demonstrates our ongoing commitment to strengthening our business across Essex, Greater London and the wider Eastern region, as well as ensuring that we continue to provide the very best service for new and existing clients.”
