St Mary’s University in Twickenham has proudly announced the opening of its cutting-edge E-Sports Arena, a facility designed to immerse students and professionals in the dynamic world of gaming, training, and research.

This state-of-the-art arena is set to become a hub for innovation and entertainment, offering a versatile space for events, tournaments, and educational experiences.

The E-Sports Arena features 60 high-performance gaming rigs, including 40 high-specification systems with Intel i7 processors and NVIDIA RTX 4060 GPUs, and 20 mid-specification systems with Intel i5 processors and NVIDIA GTX 1650 GPUs. Each machine is equipped with 27-inch monitors, professional gaming chairs, and high-quality peripherals, ensuring an immersive gaming experience.

Designed for both individual and collaborative play, the arena is perfect for hosting e-sports events, hackathons, game jams, training sessions, and master classes. The facility also boasts a 217-inch LED video wall, dynamic lighting, and a curved stage, creating an energetic and visually captivating atmosphere for spectators and participants alike.

In addition to gaming, the arena serves as a venue for research and development, allowing students and professionals to explore new frontiers in gaming and computer science. The full audiovisual setup, including a lectern and wireless microphone, makes it ideal for lectures, presentations, and guest speaker events.

St Mary’s University is excited to offer this innovative space to its students, staff, and the wider community. The arena will be available for children’s parties starting June 20, with pay-to-play access beginning July 4. External event hire is also available, providing a unique venue for various occasions.

Interim Provost and Chief Academic Officer at SMU, Prof Sara Spear, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “We’re thrilled to open the E-Sports Arena, which will provide our students with some of the most cutting-edge computer science facilities in the country.
