Bloor Homes’ plans for up to 1,000 properties at Basingstoke Golf Club have been approved.

Councillors on Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council’s development control committee unanimously approved the outline proposals at their July 22 meeting.

The Winchester Road site is allocated for 1,000 homes in the Local Plan.

Plans include demolition of existing buildings and a hardstanding area for the homes, along with a local centre, day nursery, retail, formal and informal open space, sports provision and a Gypsy and traveller pitch.

Boyer Planning associate director Alice Davidson, representing Bloor Homes, told the meeting there will be a pedestrian crossing to a new school at the Hounsome Fields development directly opposite, high speed broadband infrastructure, electric car charging infrastructure, an improved bus service and £8 million towards highways improvement.

She said Bloor Homes would contribute to the new school and secondary school provision through CIL payments.

The application was first submitted in April 2019 and has been subject to considerable revision.

Cllr Ken Rhatigan, leader of the council, told the meeting: “When it was first submitted 16 months ago, it was, frankly, unsupportable. It was not fit for the unique allocation that this is in our Local Plan.

“Fortunately over the course of the last year and a half, officers, members and the wider public have had their say to make sure that what comes before you today is approvable by you and is recommended by officers.”
