The London Borough of Richmond Upon Thames held its first virtual planning meeting today at 2.30 pm, 29th April 2020, using Microsoft Teams.

Introduced by the Chair Councillor Jonathan Cardy, the meeting followed strict guidelines which he read out at the start. He asked members to turn off both the microphone and camera on their PC unless they were speaking. This ensured only one person spoke at a time and no unnecessary interruptions. Documents were shared by council officers and applicants given time to present.

The agenda was shorter than normal with only three items for approval and voting was in the presence of the democratic officer. Two were approved and one declined.

The meeting was a success and more extensive agendas will follow, mirroring the approach being adopted by many other Planning Departments across the South East. We shall continue to follow at UK Property Forums the progress of the Virtual Planning meeting and how effective they are in the delivery of planning permissions.
