Woking Borough Council has opened a five-week consultation on the next stage of its new Local Plan, inviting residents, businesses, community organisations and other stakeholders to help shape the borough’s future.

The plan will cover 2027 to 2044 and guide where homes, jobs, infrastructure, and community facilities should be located, while also protecting Woking’s character, environment, and overall quality of life. The consultation is the first formal stage under the government’s recently introduced plan-making system.

This latest exercise builds on public engagement carried out in 2025, when people shared their priorities and vision for Woking in 2044. The council says that feedback has been analysed and used to inform the current consultation, even though the government’s new system requires a different process.

The council is now asking whether it has identified the right priorities across key areas such as housing, jobs, infrastructure, transport, climate change and the environment. Residents can share their views online.

Cllr Louise Morales, portfolio holder for planning, said the earlier consultation provided valuable insight and has directly influenced the work now underway. She said the council wants to continue the conversation about how Woking should grow and develop, and to understand whether any important issues have been missed.

After the consultation closes, the council will publish a summary of responses and use the feedback to prepare the next stage of the Local Plan. Further opportunities to comment will follow as the process continues.
