One of Swindon’s major employers has pressed the button on its 100,000 sq ft new head office.

Insurance company Zurich, has signed contracts with Skanska for its new building, the anchor project in the Kimmerfields development.

Construction starts next month with completion expected in 2022 and Zurich hopes to achieve a BREEAM rating of ‘excellent’.

The six floors will accommodate almost 1,000 staff and there will be a terrace and function space at roof level.

In the new building, Zurich will operate a ‘single use plastic free’ policy and plans to have no printing or filing. All post will be digitised. Electric car charging will be installed for visitors and there will be a beehive on the roof to produce honey which will be sold for the Zurich Community Trust.

Cllr David Renard, leader of Swindon Borough Council, said: “Zurich’s decision to maintain its presence in Swindon is tremendous news for the town and a significant boost to our local economy. This is the first brand-new office block to be built in the town centre in a generation and is a real statement of intent, not to mention a show of faith, in our exciting vision to rejuvenate this particular area.

“This new striking building with its sustainable features will be a catalyst for further investment and build on our exciting plans for the Fleming Way Bus Boulevard and the adjacent Kimmerfields site.”
