A planning application has been submitted by joint venture developer Hill Marshall for 420 homes, forming phase two of the Marleigh ‘mini town’ development.
The application also has plans for a new green space known as ‘The Titch’ and shows a 30 per cent affordable housing allocation.
Outline planning permission was granted in 2016 for the ‘mini town’, which covered up to 1,300 homes and community facilities including a nursery, a primary school, sports pitches and other public spaces.
Permission for phase one has already been granted, with some of the 547 homes already occupied after construction started in 2019.
The application for phase two aims to integrate the area into its surroundings including Cambridge, Fen Ditton, the River Cam and the surrounding countryside.
The application sees a landscape-led design, with open spaces throughout the scheme. This also helps the development be more sustainable, as well as the low energy homes, renewable energy schemes and extensive cycle and pedestrian links.
A majority of the buildings in the development will be three storeys, though some outlined in the application for phase two are up to five storeys, in the centre of the development.
A decision date for the application is not yet known.
