Spelthorne’s Strategic Planning team has launched a new engagement hub to make it easier for residents and other stakeholders to take part in planning consultations in one central place.
Two draft Supplementary Planning Documents are currently open for comment: an Affordable Housing SPD and an updated Climate Change SPD.
The Affordable Housing SPD explains when affordable homes are needed, the types and sizes expected, how they should be designed and integrated into developments, and when financial contributions may be accepted instead of on-site homes. Residents can also attend consultation events in May for more information.
The Climate Change SPD updates the adopted 2023 version and sets out how new development can help reduce climate impacts and adapt more resiliently to a changing climate. It aligns with Spelthorne’s Climate Change Strategy 2022–2030 and supports the Council’s goal of reaching Net Zero by 2030.
Both consultations run from noon on Friday, 8 May 2026, until noon on Friday, 5 June 2026. Comments can be submitted through online surveys on the engagement hub, and other response methods are also provided there. The Council says responses from residents, businesses, developers, visitors and other interested groups are all welcome.
After consultation closes, responses will be reviewed, and the documents may be revised before going to Council for adoption, which is expected by 30 June 2026 to meet a government deadline. Cllr John Turner said the consultations offer an important chance to help shape Spelthorne’s future.
