Sandra White has been offered the role of Independent Chair of the Harlesden Neighbourhood Board, which will oversee how £20 million of Pride in Place funding is spent over the next 10 years to improve the area.
The government programme targets areas with high inequality, and Brent Council says the Harlesden project offers a “once-in-a-generation” chance to deliver lasting change through strong local leadership and community involvement. If formally appointed, Sandra will help develop a long-term plan and ensure local people shape spending decisions.
The announcement builds on recent improvements in Harlesden town centre, including the transformation of the Picture Palace into a community hub, restoration work on historic buildings on Harlesden High Street, and the Harlesden Walk of Music, which celebrates local cultural heritage.
Sandra White has lived in Harlesden for more than 20 years and has extensive experience in community leadership. She has worked with young people, supported local initiatives, and most recently chaired the Harlesden Neighbourhood Forum. Officials say her deep connection to the area makes her well suited to lead the board.
Brent Council leader Muhammed Butt praised her experience, credibility and local commitment, while Georgia Gould MP said Sandra has a strong record of bringing people together and ensuring residents lead community change. Sandra said she feels honoured to take on the role and wants the investment to improve not just Harlesden’s appearance, but also community wellbeing, opportunities for young people, and pride in the neighbourhood.
Harlesden is one of two Brent areas chosen for Pride in Place funding, alongside St Raphael’s Estate, whose board chair will be announced later.
