Reading’s first co-living development has been approved by councillors.
Elder Developments won consent for a part seven, part 13, 266-flat scheme which will replace the vacant Greyfriars House office block in Greyfriars Road, at Reading Borough Council planning applications committee’s April 2 meeting. The development comprises small flats along with several shared amenity areas.
The meeting heard the council had no affordable housing policy for co-living schemes and onsite affordable homes could not be considered since co-living is not the kind of homes the council has demand for.
Cllr Matt Yeo said he had concerns about residents in the flats suffering from loneliness.
He added: “I think we will be looking at this to see what it is like.”
