Opposition is forming to a proposed development of 72 homes and a new clubhouse at Calcot Park Golf Course.
Bellway Homes has applied to West Berkshire Council to redevelop the existing clubhouse for a new one and to build the homes on a separate, disused training area on the site off Bath Road, Reading. The two sites have a combined area of 7.09 hectares. Of the 72 homes, 15 will be affordable.
A survey conducted by Reading West MP Alok Sharma following a public consultation in May 2022, found that, out of more than 130 respondents, between 84 per cent and 88 per cent opposed the scheme on the grounds of the strain on public services, local ecology and natural habitats and its access via New Lane Hill.
The survey showed similar numbers supported Tilehurst Parish Council’s plans to designate the area as Local Green Space. Opposition is now forming on social media and objections are appearing on the scheme’s planning application.
The team on the project includes Colony Architects, the Noble Consultancy and Opus Works.
