The Clapham Quarter development transformed an underutilised car park into 36 refined residential dwellings in South London.
Commissioned by Landhold Developments and designed by HUT Architecture, the project revised existing planning permissions to enhance living quality, resident amenities, and connections to green spaces.
The development consists of three blocks, each offering various accommodation sizes, with every primary living space overlooking green areas. The site features extensive greening, including wildflower roofs and expanded planted areas, bringing Clapham Common to residents’ doorsteps.
The architectural design draws inspiration from the nearby listed bandstand, incorporating decorative stonework, colonnades, and detailed brickwork. A hit-and-miss brickwork technique was used to increase natural light while maintaining privacy, addressing overlooking issues. The buildings range from one to four stories and accommodate over 30 apartments with one to three bedrooms. Communal areas feature neutral tones, timber panelling, and off-white accents.
With over 80 per cent of the apartments sold, the development is among the top three selling in London, highlighting the demand for high-quality, space-efficient homes. The project emphasises occupier well-being and social interaction, creating a stylish community in a gated setting. The development’s environmental performance includes an EPC rating of B, with features like powder-coated steel balustrades and grey buff brick inspired by local architecture.
The project was completed in February 2025, with a gross internal floor area of 3,470 m², under a design-and-build contract. The collaborative effort involved various consultants, including Outerspace for landscape design and Johnson Associates for project management.
