An outline application for the phased development of 140 dwellings in Mangotsfield was approved at last Thursday’s South Gloucestershire Council strategic sites delivery committee meeting.

The application was brought forward by Taylor Wimpey, for an undeveloped 5.5-hectare parcel of land East of Mangotsfield.

70 of the 140-home allocation will be affordable. Additionally, as part of the conditions, Taylor Wimpey are transferring 23,000 sq m of Pomphrey Hill playing fields to the local authorities, for permanent community use.

Emersons Green Town Council, and Staple Hill & Mangotsfield Parish Council raised objections, including NHS support concerns, negative impacts on wildlife and biodiversity, and access and infrastructure concerns.

The site has been sought by Taylor Wimpey for development previously, as far back as 2009, however refusals were upheld as the site was designated as being within the Green Belt at the time, however since the introduction of the Grey Belt classification, the site has been redesignated, which has played a part in officers recommending this most recent application for approval.
