Councillors have been recommended to refuse permission for 97 homes and an 84-room hotel on land near Hampton Court Palace.

Elmbridge Borough Council’s planning committee meets on Tuesday, July 13 to consider plans submitted by Alexpo and Network Rail Infrastructure to redevelop a 1.45-hectare site surrounding Hampton Court station.

There will also be some flexible retail in the scheme.

The site includes the station car park and the site of the former Jolly Boatman pub which was destroyed by fire in the 1980s and is now vacant with hoarding around it.

Network Rail also plans to refurbish the station building.

However, officers have recommended refusal on the grounds of the scheme’s height, bulk and massing, its proximity to heritage assets including Hampton Court Palace, and affordable housing and highways concerns.
