The Hythe Centre is being redeveloped into a permanent, purpose-built home for Hythe Medical Centre, marking the start of work to secure the long-term future of local healthcare in Egham Hythe and surrounding areas.
The current community centre on Thorpe Road will be converted into a modern, expanded medical facility, replacing the temporary cabin accommodation the practice has used for several years.
The new centre will offer improved clinical and consulting space, with better comfort, privacy, functionality and access for both patients and staff. The redevelopment is designed to support high-quality primary care and meet the needs of a growing community, while keeping healthcare services close to home for years to come.
Patients will continue to receive services as normal throughout construction, as Hythe Medical Centre will remain fully operational in its current accommodation beside the site. Parking will be temporarily reduced during the works, but access will be maintained throughout the build. Completion is expected in summer 2027.
Prime plc is delivering the project, with funding from Newcore Capital, in partnership with Hythe Medical Centre and NHS Surrey and Sussex Integrated Care Board. The land was purchased from Runnymede Borough Council after plans were shared with patients and residents at a public consultation in 2025.
Local leaders and partners welcomed the start of construction. Dr Khurshid described the new surgery as a long-awaited, purpose-built home for the practice, while Prime plc said the development would provide a permanent, modern environment for patient care. Runnymede Borough Council said the sale represents a major step toward better healthcare provision for the area.
LST Projects is carrying out the construction, with experience in healthcare and community developments.
