Ipswich Borough Assets, with Lanpro acting as planning consultants, have begun pre-application engagement with Ipswich Borough Council regarding the former BT site at Bibb Way, Ipswich.
The proposed scheme aims to target local housing needs and increase housing stock in the local area whilst also taking advantage of the development opportunity. The scheme design has specific regard to the environmental, recreational, ecological & social opportunities that exist within the local community.
The pre-application commencement has allowed the partnership project team to proactively respond to comments made, & to refine their earlier draft proposals. The emerging proposals have recently been shared with local residents & the general public.
Part of the proposed development involves converting a former office block into flats. This will require “Prior Notification” under Class O of the General Permitted Development Order. This would replace the previous Prior Notification achieved by the previous owners of the site. The remainder of the development – new houses & flats on the car park & former data centre – will require a full planning application. Lanpro is expected to submit this application in early in 2021.
