Merchant Land, a London-based development company, has submitted plans to transform a former MOT centre in Windmill Lane, Hounslow, just north of the M4.

The proposal is for 74 flats in two blocks with a central courtyard.

Each will exceed the nationally recommended dimensions and include access to a garden, balcony or roof terrace. The scheme provides plenty of space for cycle storage and electric car chargers.

The council agreed to support the proposal once the industrial usage, which is not included in the local plan, has been demonstrated as non-viable. The development will be respectful of the conservation area and the university buildings nearby.

The proposal include at least 35 per cent affordable homes.

Agent for the scheme is Savills, and the architect BPTW.
