Drivers can now use the new electric vehicle (EV) charging points at Alexandra Street Car Park, delivered as part of the city’s Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) programme.
The new chargers, operated by Zest, replace the previous charging infrastructure provided by Blink and are the latest investment in improving public EV charging facilities across the city.
The chargers are now live, providing drivers with improved access to reliable charging facilities and supporting the continued growth of electric vehicle use across the city.
This installation forms part of a wider programme to expand EV charging across the area. The project represents one of the largest local EV charging schemes in the United Kingdom, backed by £1.4 million from the Government’s LEVI Fund, alongside a significant investment from delivery partner Zest.
The investment comes at no cost to Southend-on-Sea City Council.
The new chargers are expected to reduce carbon emissions, improve air quality, and support Southend’s ambition to be a leading green city.
