The application for the demolition of an existing Oxford leisure centre, and the construction of a redeveloped space, featuring R&D laboratories alongside new amenities, saw unanimous approval at Tuesday’s Oxford City Council planning committee meeting.

The proposal was discussed by councillors, with points raised including its proximity and intention to contribute of £1.7 million to the Cowley Branch Line project.

Cllr Louise Upton mentioned its potential to refurbishing the Minchery Farmhouse, which she said was currently: “Falling down in an appalling state for decades now”, with previous proposals to improve it not following through. This application intends to renovate and bring the farmhouse back into use as either a pub (as it was previously) or a suitable alternative use.

Committee decision

The development was unanimously approved, with conditions alongside delegation to officers with regard to the ongoing negotiations of a Section 106 Agreement, for which completion is a condition of the approval.
