Waterbeach New Town, formerly Waterbeach Barracks – a RAF site until 2013, has seen plans for its second phase of development submitted by developer Urban&Civic.

First development phase progress

Currently 200 homes have been built so far, 150 of which now have occupiers, alongside a café run by Urban Brew, and a lake which is used for watersports – previously built for the testing of amphibious vehicles.

The homes have been built by two different companies- Cala and Stonebond, with a housing mix from flats up to five-bedroom houses.

This development will eventually span 6,500 homes, three primary schools, a secondary school and a special educational needs school. Construction of the first primary school has begun.

Second development phase

The second phase of the development has now seen plans submitted, and will include up to 2,700 additional homes, alongside cafes, a health centre and community space.

It falls under the larger outline planning permission for 6,500 homes, which was already approved, however the development is being submitted and completed in phases.
