A public consultation has been opened for the proposed Thames Valley Park Data Centre in Reading, which could open in 2031 if plans are successful.
The proposal would be built upon Microsoft’s current headquarters, with Microsoft relocating to a smaller building on-site in August next year.
BSC Consultancy are acting as project manager for the 5.3-hectare site, with Twelve Architects & Masterplanners acting as architect, Hilson Moran acting interdisciplinary consultants, and Aurup as the planning consultant for the project.
Alpaca Communications is supporting with the consultation and wider community engagement.
Expectations for employment include up to 245 construction jobs for the development phase, and 115 full-time roles once the site is operational.
The proposal also looks to deliver at least 10 per cent Biodiversity Net Gain, and is assessing opportunities to reuse generated heat in nearby businesses.
An in-person consultation was held last month at Pearson Hall in Sonning, where residents shared their initial views on the development, with topics raised including climate impact, alongside the potential for improved connectivity in the local area.
