The Wandsworth planning team have recommended the refusal of the Wimbledon ( All England Lawn Tennis Club) extension into the former Wimbledon Park Golf Club grounds.

The proposal will be reviewed at the planning meeting on 21 November 2023.

The reason for their recommendation is that the proposed development’s harm outweighs the benefits per the London Plan.

The report recognises that there are economic benefits and benefits associated with public access to the park but attributes low or negligible benefits in other areas.

The park’s northern corner falls within Wandsworth, which already hosts some of the qualifying and practice at Roehampton.

The hybrid plans include a new show court, 38 tennis courts and a boardwalk around the lake.

The controversial plans have met many objections, including the three local MPs affected by the plans.

The proposals will also need to be reviewed by the Mayor, who may call in the application, making the GLA the local authority. after that, the secretary of state will have the opportunity to review, which could take the proposal to an extended tie break.

We have covered the development in the articles below.
