Woking Borough Council is inviting residents, businesses and other interested parties to comment on draft Conservation Area Appraisal documents for three areas of the borough.
The appraisals cover Byfleet Corner/Rosemount Parade and Station Approach in West Byfleet, Woking town centre, and Aviary Road in Pyrford. They describe the distinctive historic and architectural character of each area and will support future planning decisions affecting heritage assets. The documents are also part of the council’s wider work to review and update its heritage evidence base.
Two of the appraisals, for Woking town centre and Byfleet Corner/Rosemount Parade and Station Approach, were prepared by Woking Borough Council. The Aviary Road appraisal was produced by Pyrford Neighbourhood Forum in partnership with the council.
Cllr Louise Morales said conservation areas are important for protecting the unique character and history of local communities while ensuring change is managed carefully. She encouraged people to read the draft appraisals and share their views, noting that local knowledge can help ensure the final documents accurately reflect each place’s heritage.
The documents are available online and can also be viewed at Byfleet Library, Knaphill Library, West Byfleet Library and Woking Library. Comments should be sent to planning.policy@woking.gov.uk with the subject line “Conservation Area Appraisals”.
