An application for planning permission by Weston Homes and Columbia Threadneedle has been submitted to Norwich City Council, for the comprehensive redevelopment of Anglia Square and adjacent land on Edward Street.
This is for up to 1,250 dwellings, hotel, ground floor retail and commercial floorspace, cinema, multi-storey car parks, place of worship and associated works to the highway and public realm areas.
The aim is to bring opportunities for a wider range and increased number of jobs on the site, and act as a catalyst for boosting the local economy.
The application consists of an outline element for the redevelopment of nearly the whole of the current Anglia Square site (the shops between Sovereign Way and the flyover are outside the application boundary), together with a detailed element for Phase 1 of the scheme, and the tower.
There are four proposed phases of the development, and “Reserved Matters” (or detailed) applications would follow this application for each of Phases 2, 3 and 4.
On March 21, 2019 the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government notified Norwich City Council of his decision to exercise his powers under section 77 of the 1990 Act and call-in the Anglia Square planning application for his own determination.
Arrangements for a local Inquiry have been made by the Planning Inspectorate.
It will take place in the Council Chamber at Norwich City Hall.
