Councillors in Slough look set to decide on the sale of 23 buildings and plots of land the council owns in its long-running battle to balance the books.
The borough council’s cabinet is set to approve the disposals on Monday, March 17, subject to the cabinet committee agreement on March 13.
The list includes a series of small car parking areas, numerous garage sites and disused pieces of land.
Cllr Wal Chahal, lead member for assets, said: “We have been undertaking a comprehensive review of all our assets; whether individual properties, pieces of land, disused garages or larger sites.
“The proposal we will be discussing covers the potential sale of a range of our assets which are surplus to requirements; where the running costs outstrips the benefits or where a new use or new freeholder or leaseholder could bring about far more benefits for the community.
“With the recent sales of small shopping parades, whilst keeping the freehold, we actually sold very long leases for the whole parade to one of the tenants already running a business there; securing his future and the local services they provide to their communities in a local, economically sustainable way.
“As with all our asset sales, we will be looking at getting the best value in terms of a financial return but also what brings most benefits to local people.”
